Vlatko Andonovski’s team won bronze after defeating Australia, but the former president used the chance to criticise the team.

Former US President Donald Trump has criticised the United States women’s team for failing to win a gold medal at the Olympics.

The United States Women’s National Team(USWNT) entered the event as one of the favourites to win, having done so four times previously.

Vlatko Andonovski’s squad was defeated in the semi-finals after losing to Canada, but they went on to win the bronze medal with a 4-3 victory over Australia.

Trump, on the other hand, has criticized the players, suggesting that their performances were poor because they were preoccupied with politics.

In a statement released to reporters, he wrote: “If our soccer team, headed by a radical group of Leftist Maniacs, wasn’t woke, they would have won the Gold Medal instead of the Bronze.

“Woke means you lose, everything that is woke goes bad, and our soccer team certainly has.

“There were, however, a few Patriots standing. Unfortunately, they need more than that respecting our Country and National Anthem.

“They should replace the wokesters with Patriots and start winning again.”

Megan Rapinoe, a member of the USWNT, has been a vocal critic of Trump in the past, labelling him a white nationalist last year.

Rapinoe accused him of “spewing of hate and the ‘othering’ of the rest of the country” producing “more despair and more anxiety and more fear” in the United States.
