Men from the Ogun state police command have detained a herdsman who merely identified himself as Mohammed on Tuesday, August 10. Mohammed was in possession of one AK 47 automatic rifle when he was arrested.

The suspect was apprehended after the DPO Imeko divisional headquarters received information that two young Fulani boys had been spotted at CAC Oha forest Iwoye Ketu in Imeko Afon local government region with Ak 47 riffles.

DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, the state police command’s spokesperson, confirmed the arrest, saying that after receiving the information, the DPO promptly assembled his men, as well as other stakeholders such as hunters, Vigilante men, and safe corps, and stormed the forest. After hours of searching the jungle, he said, a man named Mohammed was discovered hiding in the bushes with an AK 47 rifle, and he was swiftly apprehended.

According to Opeyemi, the arrested armed youth is strongly suspected of being a member of a kidnapping ring that has terrorised the area for some time.

CP Edward Awolowo Ajogun, the commissioner of police, has ordered the suspect’s immediate transfer to the state criminal investigation and intelligence department for an inquiry, according to him. He also ordered that the entire forest be thoroughly searched in order to arrest the rest of his group.
