Napoli beat Sampdoria 4-0 on Thursday to keep their Serie A perfect record and return to the top of the table. Victor Osimhen scored twice.

In Genoa, the visitors from Napoli rode their luck for the first 35 minutes.

After 11 minutes, Emil Audero was misled when Osimhen mishit a close range volley and had already dropped back across the goal line when the softly struck ball floated into his grasp.

Sampdoria retaliated by barricading the Napoli goal, but David Ospina saved the day with a number of excellent stops.

After 39 minutes, Napoli took control when Fabian Ruiz passed the ball from 20 metres into the corner of Audero’s goal.

After 50 minutes, Osimhen scored his second goal, latching onto Hirving Lozano’s low cross from the right flank and smashing the ball home from the edge of the six-yard box.

Nine minutes later, Piot Zielinski added a carbon copy goal, meeting a low Lozano pullback with a clean shot.

Osimhen may have gotten a little more. He had a strike ruled out for offside late in the first half and then pulled his attempt beyond when one-on-one with Audero.

With 15 points from their first five league games under Luciano Spalletti, Napoli returned to the top of the standings.

Inter Milan, who won 3-1 against Fiorentina on Tuesday, and AC Milan, who beat Venezia on Wednesday, are now two points ahead of them.

Sampdoria fell to 13th place, losing ground to Juventus on goal differential.
