Chew-sticks are made from a twig of a tree and are used to maintain oral hygiene.

Before the invention of toothbrush, Africans use chewing-sticks to clean their teeth. Several oral tests have shown that the African chewing stick contains fluoride, natural anti biotics and other anti-cavity ingredients.

According to WHO, several plants used as sources of chew-sticks in developing countries contain fluoride, antibiotics and other medicinal compounds.

The chemical constituents in the sticks possess the properties of whitening the teeth and preventing tooth decay.

Chew-sticks prevents gum diseases and gets rid of bad breath. This is the reason why some health stores in the United States sell chew-sticks as a natural form of dental care.
