Niger State Commissioner kidnapped from his home

Mallam Idris Mohammed, the Niger State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, has been kidnapped and taken to an unknown location.

On Sunday night, the Commissioner was kidnapped from his home in Baban Tunga, Tafa local government area of the state, by heavily armed men thought to be bandits.

The attackers, estimated to number around 20, invaded the Commissioner’s home around 1:00 a.m., shooting sporadically into the air before abducting their target in front of his second wife.

According to a family source, the commissioner was abducted while it was raining severely, and the abductors have yet to contact the family as of the time of reporting this article.

Although the state Police Command has yet to release a statement to that effect, a top government official who talked to our correspondent on the condition of anonymity said, “that is what we heard, but the bandits have yet to contact the family.”
