According to reliable sources, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) would form a panel to investigate Abba Kyari, a high-ranking officer, over his suspected ties with Ramon Abbas, a self-confessed international fraudster.

Following his indictment in the confessional admissions made by the individual known as Hushpuppi, the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has already obtained a court order for Kyari’s arrest.

According to sources, the FBI has notified Nigerian police about the arrest order, but no formal confirmation has been given and the specifics are still hazy.

An international arrest warrant can be issued by INTERPOL, but a judicial decision is required before Nigeria can give over Kyari to the FBI for trial in the United States.

On the Kyari twist in the Hushpuppi affair, the police have remained silent.

However, a senior officer who talked to journalists anonymously claimed that before any extradition process could be addressed, the police hierarchy would first take “in-house action.”

“Before we decide what to do next, the police headquarters will set up a high-powered panel to investigate the allegations against him,” the officer was quoted as saying.

Hushpuppi and 11 of his friends were arrested in the UAE in June 2020 on charges of hacking, impersonation, scamming, banking fraud, and identity theft.

He had already pleaded guilty to money laundering charges, facing a sentence of up to 20 years in jail.

The social media celebrity claimed in a recent court declaration that he bribed Kyari to arrest a co-fraudster.

Hushpuppi’s claim, on the other hand, was refuted by the crack investigator, who stated that he did not receive any money from the socialite as claimed.

Additional court documents obtained  throughout the ensuing incident revealed that a US district court in California had ordered the FBI to arrest Kyari.

Hushpuppi was extradited to the United States after the UAE police described his arrest in a special operation known as “Fox Hunt 2,” in which he was accused of scamming 1.9 million people out of N168 billion.

Before his trial, the beleaguered Instagram sensation was arraigned and jailed at the Metropolitan Correctional Center (MCC) in Chicago.
