Manchester United defeated Newcastle United 4-1 at Old Trafford on Saturday, with Cristiano Ronaldo scoring twice.

When Mason Greenwood’s deflected shot was mishandled by Newcastle goalkeeper Freddie Woodman in stoppage time at the conclusion of the first half, Ronaldo reacted quickest to score from close range.

On 56 minutes, they were pegged back by a counterattack goal by Javier Manquillo for the visitors. Manquillo scored with a fantastic strike across the face of goal after Manchester United’s players were caught out of position.

But United quickly regained the lead, with Ronaldo scoring for the second time in the 62nd minute. Luke Shaw burst into the Newcastle half before passing to Ronaldo, who took a touch before shooting past Woodman.

With 10 minutes remaining, Bruno Fernandes added a long-range goal to join his Portuguese compatriot on the scoresheet, before United replacement Jesse Lingard added a late fourth to secure all three points and go to the top of the Premier League table.
