Cristiano Ronaldo has thanked Edinson Cavani for presenting him with his Manchester United number 7 jersey.

Ronaldo will wear the number 7 shirt following his return to England 12 years after leaving for Madrid.

The 36-year-old wrote on Instagram:

“I wasn’t sure if it would be possible to have the number seven shirt again”.

“So I would like to say a huge thank you to Edi for his incredible gesture.”

Before moving to Real Madrid, Ronaldo wore the jersey throughout his first tenure at Old Trafford, from 2003 until 2009.

He scored 118 goals in 292 appearances for United during that time.

Last season, Cavani wore the shirt for the Red Devils, and at the 1-0 triumph against Wolverhampton Wanderers last weekend.

Following the departure of Daniel James to Leeds United, the Uruguay striker will now wear no. 21, the same number he wears for his country.
