2020 Olympics: France defeats Nigeria in Female Basketball game
The rampaging French players coming off a 74-70 setback against Japan totally overpowered the Nigerian women’s basketball team, in the early hours of Friday.
D’Tigress lacked the tenacious defence that enabled them secure a respectable 81-72 loss against Team USA on Tuesday.
Adaora Elonu, the team’s captain, Promise Amukamara, Ezinne Kalu, Pallas Kunaiyi-Akpanah, and Victoria Macaulay were all picked to the starting lineup by Otis Hughley.
France took an early 8-0 lead in the game, but Nigeria came roaring back to make the score 11-11. The opening quarter was eventually won by the French, 18-12.
D’Tigress struggled immensely in the second quarter and the French ran them ragged to establish a 44-27 lead at halftime.
Due to Nigeria’s poor defence and uninspiring offensive, France led 67-42 at the end of the third quarter.
The French eventually won the game 87-62 in the fourth quarter, handing D’Tigress their second loss at the Olympics.
Nigeria will play Japan on Monday in their final group game, looking for a win while hoping for favourable results elsewhere.
