Michael Salako, 40, has been arrested by men of the Ogun State Police Command for reportedly killing a motorcyclist known as Okada driver in Abeokuta’s Lafenwa neighbourhood.

According to a statement released by DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, the state police command’s spokesperson, the suspect was apprehended after the Dpo Lafenwa divisional headquarters received a distress call at about 12 p.m. that an Okada rider had been beaten to death at Sanni street, Lafenwa Abeokuta.

“Upon the distress call, the Dpo CSP Samuel Aladegoroye, mobilised his men and moved to the scene where the suspect was promptly arrested.

During interrogation, the suspect, who claimed to know the deceased in their neighbourhood, told the police that the previous day he asked the deceased to take him somewhere on his motorcycle, but the deceased refused.

He went on to say that when he met him on that fatal day, he was trying to question him about his motives for declining to take him out the day before, which resulted in a fight. The deceased collapsed and gave up the ghost while the fighting was going on “according to the statement.

Abimbola said the corpse of the victim simply identified as Abudu has been deposited in the morgue for autopsy.

He further stated that the commissioner of police, CP Edward Awolowo Ajogun, has ordered the suspect’s immediate transfer to the state criminal investigation and intelligence department’s homicide branch for further investigation and prosecution.
